Field service software with a mobile app assigns work orders to technicians and shows jobs on the technician's phone. In PureField, the work order is opened and assigned in the panel, and the PureField mobile app shows it to the technician. On site, the technician records the report, photos and customer signature.
What is a field work order?
A field work order is the job record that brings together the customer, device, technician, status and service report. When paper forms move to a digital record, the technician scans the device QR code on site and the device's service history opens at the same time. The work order keeps the origin of the job and the on-site outcome in one place.
How a work order is opened and assigned in the panel
- A service request or external request is converted into a work order, or a work order is opened from a device record.
- A technician is assigned on the Work Orders screen, where planning and site visit tracking also take place.
- Where AI dispatch is enabled for the account, a technician suggestion appears and the user confirms the assignment.
- The assigned work order appears in the technician's calendar.
What the technician sees in the mobile app
- Assigned work orders and the technician's calendar
- Device card and earlier service history
- QR scanning to link the job to the correct device record
- A focused menu for the technician role: own devices, work orders, service reports and external requests
Closing the job on site: report, photos, signatures and location
When the technician finishes the job, the service report is filled in on site. Before and after photo blocks are uploaded to storage. The engineer and customer signatures are captured, and the signature event is written to the audit trail. When the report is closed, the work order status is updated. Location tracking is turned on per account: the mobile app writes the technician's location, and the Location Tracking screen in the panel reads it.
Criteria for choosing field work order software
Use the criteria below when comparing mobile work order software. Each row shows PureField's status and how you can verify it.
| Criterion | PureField status | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Assignment and calendar | Available in the panel; the assigned work order appears in the technician's calendar | Assign a work order in a demo and follow the technician view |
| Technician view | Focused menu showing the technician's own work orders | Sign in with the technician role |
| Photos and signatures | Photo and signature blocks in the service report | Request a sample service report PDF |
| Location tracking | Opened with an account setting | Ask whether the setting is active on your account |
| Data retention and privacy | Requested in writing from the vendor | Request the data location and text in writing |
After the report: draft, PDF and email
A draft report is completed in the panel and rated by a manager. An approved report is produced as a PDF and sent by email. The customer can give feedback through the service report rating portal. A completed service report can be used to issue an invoice.

Frequently asked questions
How do I assign a work order to a field team from a mobile app?
Open or convert the job on the Work Orders screen in the panel, plan it, and select a technician. The assigned work order then appears in the technician's calendar and in the PureField mobile app.
How does a technician see an assigned work order on the phone?
The technician signs in to the mobile app and sees the work orders assigned to them. From a work order they can open the device card and the earlier service history.
How do photos and signatures collected on site appear in the service report?
The service report has before and after photo blocks, and the photos are uploaded to storage. Engineer and customer signatures are added to the report, and the signature event is written to the audit trail.
How does location tracking work and who can see it?
Location tracking is turned on per account. The mobile app writes the technician's location, and a service manager sees current and past locations on the Location Tracking screen in the panel.
Do the mobile app and the panel use the same records?
Yes. The technician's location, report and photos are written by the mobile app, and the panel shows them on the related work order and service report screens. You can see the same work order on both sides during a demo.
